PERSEID METEOR SHOWER

CampOut Aug 10th and 11th
Guided Stargazing Sat & Sun 9-10pm
Meteor Shower Peak Midnight 'til Dawn

THE EXPERIENCE

Stay overnight at Surprise Farm Retreat Center as we gather in community to watch this delightful dazzling celestial event!

WHAT

"The Perseids show up every year in August when Earth ventures through trails of debris left behind by an ancient comet. This year, Earth may be in for a closer encounter than usual with the comet trails that result in meteor shower, setting the stage for a spectacular display.

“Forecasters are predicting a Perseid outburst this year with double normal rates on the night of Aug. 11-12,” said Bill Cooke with NASA’s Meteoroid Environments Office in Huntsville, Alabama. “Under perfect conditions, rates could soar to 200 meteors per hour.”

An outburst is a meteor shower with more meteors than usual. The last Perseid outburst occurred in 2009."

Meteor Shower will be at its peak on the night of Sun to Mon Aug 12th between midnight and dawn. We expect beautiful meteor shower activity the nights before and after the peak.

We encourage you to make it a weekend getaway!

*"The Perseids are viewable in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres during the hours after midnight. Find an area well away from the city or street lights. Come prepared with a sleeping bag, blanket, or lawn chair. Lie flat on your back with your feet facing North and look up, taking in as much of the sky as possible. In less than 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adapt and you will begin to see meteors. Be patient – the show will last until dawn, so you have plenty of time to catch a glimpse."
